Washington set to host more NFL scouts than teams for Oregon showdown
A huge Pac-12 matchup on Saturday is garnishing tons of attention from NFL scouts.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, there will be 34 NFL scouts in attendance for Saturday’s game between Washington and Oregon.
Thamel believes the focus will be mostly on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and Washington quarterback Michael Penix.
“The obvious focus is going to be on Bo Nix and Michael Penix,” Thamel said on College Football Live. “Talking to scouts this week, they’re both perceived to be in that 2nd round range right now, and they could end up 1st round picks. Think of that Kenny Pickett, 20th range. They’re both different players, and obviously there’s intrigue if you look at attendance in the press box.”
Penix is making his case as a high draft pick so far this season with 1,999 yards and 16 touchdowns, and Nix is right there with him with 1,459 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Thamel believes Saturday’s game will be a good chance for scouts to see Nix and Penix air the ball out as both teams struggle in the secondary.
“The secondary doesn’t have the talent on either side of the ball, which is why the scouts in the desert set the over/under at 67,” Thamel said. “It’s going to be an aerial show on Saturday.”
