Washington continues to deal with the fallout from losing head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama. Part of that fallout includes a wave of Huskies heading for the transfer portal, including some key pieces on Sunday.

For starters, Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz with 247 Sports report quarterback Austin Mack has entered the portal. Mack was a 4-star prospect and the No. 16 QB in the 2023 recruiting class per the 247 Sports Composite.

Mack’s decision is a big one with the Huskies dangerously thin at QB for the time being. Michael Penix Jr. is off to the NFL, and veteran transfer QB Will Rogers re-entered the portal after DeBoer’s departure.

Another veteran piece of the Huskies to hit the portal per Zenitz and Hummer is starting offensive lineman Nate Kalepo. He has been at Washington since 2019 and started every game of the 2023 season at guard, primarily serving as the starting left guard.

Another player to reportedly opt for the portal includes defensive back Dyson McCutcheon per Pete Nakos with On3 Sports. A member of the 2021 recruiting class, McCutcheon has appeared in 12 games for the Huskies with 5 tackles and a pass breakup.

In this era of college football, players testing the portal after a coaching change has become commonplace. However, these players always have the opportunity to withdraw from the portal and play for the new head coach of the Huskies, but it is an uncertain time for all involved.
