Washington has finally pushed into the College Football Playoff field.

The CFP selection committee unveiled its updated rankings following Week 12 action on ESPN Tuesday night. For the first time this season, the committee flipped Florida State and Washington and awarded the No. 4 spot in their rankings to the Huskies. The committee kept Georgia at No. 1, with Ohio State at No. 2 and Michigan at No. 3.

The Huskies picked up their fourth win over a ranked opponent last Saturday when they beat Oregon State 22-20 in Corvallis. The Beavers were ranked No. 11 by the selection committee at the time of the victory, giving UW its second top-15 win of the season. (Oregon State moved down to No. 16 this week.)

In recent weeks, the selection committee had continually cited Washington’s struggle against Arizona State and Stanford as reasons for sitting behind the Seminoles at No. 5. Beating the Beavs finally gave Washington — which currently has the best strength of record in the country — the ammunition to overtake Florida State for the fourth and final spot in the projected field.

Of course, a No. 4 ranking at this juncture doesn’t mean anything for Washington. The Huskies need to finish.

They’ll host Washington State in the Apple Cup on Saturday (1 p.m. PT, FOX) and then play either Oregon or Arizona in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 1.
