Washington OC Ryan Grubb identifies Huskies’ best big-play threat at receiver
The Washington pass game didn’t look to push the ball downfield often last season. Of the more than 400 pass attempts between Dylan Morris and Sam Huard, less than 14% of them traveled at least 20 yards. That was on the low end in the Pac-12.
A third of those shots, though, went to Rome Odunze. And that’s the first name that popped to mind for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb on Monday when he was asked if the Huskies have a clear best “take the top off” receiver on the roster.
Ryan Grubb was asked if there's a clear "take the top off the defense" wide receiver in UW's offense.
"Yes. Rome (Odunze)."

The 6-foot-3, 201-pound wideout is entering his third season in the program. So far, he has played in 13 of a possible 16 games, making seven starts last year. Odunze put up 41 receptions for 415 yards and four touchdowns as a second-year man, but with a new offense and a more innovative scheme, the UW coaching staff has high hopes.
He’s penciled in as a starter to open the new season. In the team’s spring game, Odunze flashed all over the field, taking a few fly sweeps down in the red zone.
He landed on our All-Bang the Drum Team earlier this summer for all the same reasons UW is so high on him now.
