Washington lands transfer commitment from former Nebraska big man
Washington has landed a commitment from former Nebraska forward Wilhelm Breidenbach.
Breidenbach spent two seasons at Nebraska before entering the transfer portal in May. He started twice in 42 career appearances and comes to Seattle with three years to play. Breidenbach shared the news on his Instagram page Thursday.
A 6-foot-10 forward from Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Breidenbach appeared in 32 games for the Huskers last season. In 13 minutes a night, he averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. He appeared in 10 games as a true freshman during the 2021-22 season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.7 boards in 15.7 minutes a night that year.
NU hoped he’d take a step forward as a sophomore, but that never quite happened. When Breidenbach was signed, his ability to stretch the floor was viewed as a plus. He connected on just 14 of his 67 triples at Nebraska (20.9%) and that affected his role.
Washington will hope a change of scenery unlocks his potential as a 4 or 5. He was a 4-star recruit in the 2021 class, picking Nebraska over offers from USC, Cal, Arizona, and Vanderbilt.
Breidenbach is the fifth transfer commitment this offseason for coach Mike Hopkins, joining Nate Calmese (Lamar), Sahvir Wheeler (Kentucky), Anthony Holland (Fresno State), and Moses Wood (Portland).
