Washington is finalizing the hire of a new athletic director, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Saturday morning.

According to Thamel’s report, Washington is finalizing a deal to hire Tulane’s Troy Dannen as its next athletic director.

Dannen has been with Tulane for 8 years and has helped transform the athletic department. Last season, Tulane’s football team won its first AAC Championship in program history and just the second conference championship since 1948. The Green Wave went on to face USC in the Cotton Bowl, which they beat to finish the season 12-2 and ranked No. 9 in the country.

Tulane’s men’s basketball team won 20 regular season games for the first time in more than 20 years. The program also saw success in tennis, baseball, volleyball and other sports.

Now, Dannen will take over another top athletics program as it makes the transition to the Big Ten in 2024-25.

Washington’s former athletic director Jen Cohen, who served the program for 25 years, left in August to take over as the athletic director at USC.
