Ryan Grubb says he got home Saturday after a 36-33 win over Oregon, opened “a good bottle of vino” and celebrated the win.

It was a huge moment for the Washington program. A national platform was given to the Huskies to solidify themselves as a College Football Playoff contender. Washington more than answered that question. After College GameDay was on campus to open the day, by the time the final horn sounded on a win, all of Husky Stadium was ready to explode.

The Husky offensive coordinator praised the team’s approach to the game. He said he was a little worried early there might be too much juice. But he saw the team settle in after the first drive of the game.

And what transpired from there was special.

Grubb was asked on Monday when he met with reporters for his favorite moment from the day.

He said it was seeing quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in the tunnel — full of emotion as he walked off the field with his family — after the game.

“That honestly caught me off-guard a little bit, just being emotional,” Grubb said. “I hadn’t really had that moment this year yet with Mike. Last year, in the locker room at Oregon was like that. But just to see that kid rise up on an occasion like this.

“And all the guys. I just know how hard they all work and what they put in and the belief that they’ve paid back into the program. Those kids aren’t surprised that we’re in this position. They believed that we were gonna be right where we’re standing right now. That’s special to me.”
