Ryan Grubb is being recognized again as one of the best assistants in the country. On Tuesday, he was nominated for the Broyles Award.

The Broyles Award is given annually to the best assistant coach in the world of college football. Grubb was a semifinalist last season as a part of Kalen DeBoer’s first staff in Seattle. Grubb runs the offense at Washington and also works with quarterbacks.

Grubb’s offense is second in the Pac-12 in total yards per game (503.9) and leads the conference in passing yards per game (378).

Michael Penix Jr. is a big part of the offense’s success. The Indiana transfer has been amazing since coming to Seattle. Penix has 3,533 yards passing with 28 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season.

Penix’s favorite target is Rome Odunze. Odunze has 1,100 yards receiving to lead the team.

The running game is led by Dillon Johnson. Johnson has 790 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. Johnson transferred in from Mississippi State and is in his first year with the Huskies.

Former TCU offensive coordinator Garrett Riley won the award last season. Grubb would be the first Pac-12 assistant to win it if he does.

Semifinalists and then finalists will be announced later this month. The winner of the 2023 Broyles Award will be unveiled at a ceremony on Dec. 5.
