Tuesday was a rough one for Washington football’s run game.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer announced Tuesday that veteran running back Cam Davis and offensive lineman Gaard Memmelaar will both miss the entirety of the 2023 season following injuries.

Both are rough blows to the Huskies, but especially in Davis’ case. He was expected to be Washington’s starter at RB for the season opener against Boise State and finished last season as the Huskies’ top scoring threat on the ground. He finished the 2022 campaign with 13 touchdowns and 522 rushing yards.

Memmelaar has been with the Huskies since 2020, though he first appeared in a game last season, seeing the field 4 times as a reserve OL. He was working with the 2nd team before his injury.

With Davis out, Washington is likely to turn to Mississippi State transfer Dillon Johnson and returner/ former Nebraska transfer Will Nixon.

The Huskies’ game against Boise State is set for Sept 2 at 12:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
