Michael Penix Jr. reveals reason for return to Washington: 'We're shooting for more'
Michael Penix Jr. decided to come back to Washington for another season after a solid 2022 campaign. Penix spoke at Pac-12 Media Days on Friday about what his reasoning was.
Penix transferred to the Huskies from Indiana and had 4,641 yards passing and 31 touchdowns in his first season in the Pac-12. He led Washington to an 11-win season as well.
Washington has some unfinished business heading into the season, which motivated Penix to come back.
“We wanted to win the Pac-12 and we had a lot more goals that we wanted to accomplish. 11 wins was a great season, but we’re definitely shooting for more. We’re shooting for more. At the beginning of the season we stated our goals for the team and we didn’t make all of our goals. That’s one of the reasons I came back.”

Washington fell short of reaching the Pac-12 Championship game last season. The last time the Huskies won the Pac-12 was back in 2018.
The Huskies are returning a lot of weapons on offense. Penix, Rome Odunze, and Jalen McMillan will all be back for another run at the title.
Washington kicks off the 2023 season against Boise State on Sept. 2. That game is set for a 12:30 p.m. PT kickoff on ABC.
