Michael Penix Jr. is trying to lead his Washington Huskies on a comeback in the National Championship Game. Down 17-3 with under 2 minutes to go, Penix led the team down the field and looked poised to score before the half.

With 42 seconds to play, the star quarterback found Jalen McMillan in the back of the end zone to make it 17-10 after the field goal. That’s where the score currently sits at the half.

Here’s a replay of the 4th-down TD:

The Wolverines got off to a hot start, sitting on a 14-3 after the first quarter. However, the Huskies’ defense held the Wolverines to a field goal in the 2nd and scored a TD of their own.

At the half, Penix has thrown for 128 yards with 1 TD. Rome Odunze leads the way with 35 receiving yards, but McMillan has the team’s lone score.

The Huskies’ defense has held JJ McCarthy to just 81 passing yards while completing less than half of his passes. However, a few long runs by Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum have been the difference thus far. The Wolverines have already eclipsed 200 rushing yards after just one half of play.
