Keion Brooks, Sahvir Wheeler lift Washington hoops over No. 7 Gonzaga
Washington basketball had not beaten Gonzaga since 2005 heading into Saturday night’s matchup at the Alaska Airlines Center in Seattle.
Keion Brooks, Sahvir Wheeler and the rest of the Huskies squad snapped that streak from the Zags, beating the nation’s No. 7 team 78-73. The 2 former Kentucky Wildcats led the way, combining for 33 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, the pair also combined for 9 turnovers. Those numbers will have to go down if Washington is to see sustained success this season, especially from their point guard in Wheeler, who is averaging just under 4 turnovers per game at start the year.
The Huskies stayed out of foul trouble and out-rebounded the Bulldogs. They also shot better from range and finished as the more efficient team, hitting 45% of their shots on the evening.
Following the Huskies’ first win over the Bulldogs, Washington fans performed a mini court storm. Check it out below:
