Washington has reportedly worked with DeBoer on a contract extension for the last few months, but were unable to get an agreement done with their now-outbound head coach.
Several potential candidates for Washington’s next head coach have also emerged on Friday. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the list includes Kansas’ Lance Leipold, Kansas State’s Chris Klieman, Arizona’s Jedd Fisch and Utah’s Kyle Whittingham, amongst others. Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is also expected to be considered for the role.
DeBoer spent the past 2 seasons as Washington’s head coach. The Huskies went 25-3 with DeBoer at the helm, including a national championship game appearance.
Alabama has not yet officially announced DeBoer as its next head coach.
