Kalen DeBoer was mentioned as an early potential candidate to replace Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M Sunday morning.

According to TexAgs’ Billy Liucci, the school is expected to part ways with Fisher as early as Sunday. The Aggies will reportedly pay close to $76 million to buy out the remainder of his contract. Fisher went 45-25 at Texas A&M, though he just helped A&M to a 51-10 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel then reported a list of potential names of interest in the upcoming A&M coaching search: Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin, Duke’s Mike Elko, Florida State (Mike Norvell), UTSA’s Jeff Traylor, Kansas State’s Chris Klieman, USC’s Kliff Kingsbury, Oregon’s Dan Lanning, and DeBoer.

In the run-up to last year’s Apple Cup game, Washington announced a two-year contract extension for DeBoer tying him to the school through the 2028 season.

That extension reportedly included a buyout that runs $12 million until Feb. 1, 2025, before dropping to $10 million the following year.

Will the Aggies be willing to pay close to $90 million just in buyouts? That remains to be seen.

It’s also unclear if DeBoer would have any interest whatsoever in the job. He has no prior coaching experience in the SEC footprint or in Texas. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been — Saturday’s 35-28 win over Utah marked career win No. 100 for DeBoer — but there would appear to be some serious cultural differences at A&M.

Washington is 10-0 for the second time in program history, right in the thick of the College Football Playoff discussion, and one win away from securing a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb turned down overtures from Alabama in the offseason to remain in Seattle with DeBoer.

With the school moving to the Big Ten next fall, resources figure to be abundantly available for Washington to make DeBoer’s compensation competitive and, in turn, for DeBoer to be able to pay top dollar to retain top assistants.
