Greg McElroy, Joey Galloway debate whether Washington should be ranked at No. 2 in CFP rankings
Greg McElroy and Joey Galloway engaged in a little back-and-forth after the College Football Playoff committee unveiled its latest Top 25 rankings on Tuesday.
Washington, for the first time this season, is at No. 4. But could there have been a case for the Huskies at No. 2, ahead of both Ohio State and Michigan? Galloway thought the Huskies could have been slotted at No. 3, while McElroy felt things could have been taken a step further with the Huskies at No. 2.
McElroy called Ohio State’s win over Notre Dame a “great win” while stating that it was “comparable” to the win over Penn State, in part because the Buckeyes defeated Penn State at home and Notre Dame on the road.
“If you’re gonna make this big, dig-in-your-heels argument in favor of Washington being ahead of Michigan, why don’t we also engage in the discussion that Washington should maybe be ahead of Ohio State?” McElroy asked Galloway.
“Because Ohio State’s resume is different than Michigan’s resume,” Galloway said.
“I don’t disagree with that,” McElroy interjected.
“You just said it, because they have Notre Dame,” Galloway continued. “Now, when you look at the rest of Michigan’s resume, there’s nothing.”
While the committee ultimately put the Huskies at No. 4, the debate around whether they’re too high, too low, or right where they should be will continue to take place.
Is there an argument for Washington to move ALL THE WAY up to No. 2?!?#GoHuskies | #PurpleReign pic.twitter.com/1qDSsezR5D
