Sometimes, things come full circle.

They have for Germie Bernard, who announced on Saturday he has committed to transfer from Michigan State to Washington after one season in East Lansing. The former 4-star wideout shared the news on Instagram.

Bernard was one of the top wideouts in the entire country during the 2022 recruiting cycle. He committed to then-UW head coach Jimmy Lake and stuck with that commitment after Lake was fired. He signed with the program, but asked for a release from his NLI after wideout coach Junior Adams left to take the same job at Oregon.

He eventually landed at Michigan State. Bernard had seven catches for 128 yards and two scores in his first year with the Spartans, but saw his offensive snaps all but disappear after a three-catch, 28-yard performance against Ohio State on Oct. 8. The three catches were a career-high at that point, and he didn’t log a reception from then on.

Bernard entered the transfer portal on Dec. 12.

At Washington, he’ll join a loaded passing game. UW is returning star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the 2023 season. Both Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan could also return after each topped 1,000 yards receiving this season to become the first UW teammates to do so in the same season in program history. Redshirt freshman Ja’Lynn Polk was also exceptional in his second season at UW, recording 649 yards and six scores.

And then on Friday, UW secured a commitment from one of the top high school wideouts in the 2023 class, Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons.
