ESPN's College GameDay crew makes their picks in Washington-Cal game
Washington’s game against California made its way onto ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning. The crew, including celebrity guest picker Sabrina Ionescu, offered their picks for the game.
Being a former Oregon basketball star, of course Ionescu picked against the Huskies. Lee Corso joined her in picking Cal. But the rest of the panel went with UW to move to 6-2.
- Desmond Howard: Washington
- Pat McAfee: Washington
- Sabrina Ionescu: California
- Lee Corso: California
- Kirk Herbstreit: Washington
The matchup offers a bit of intrigue even after Cal lost to Colorado a week ago. The Golden Bears haven’t yet lost at home this season. In fact, they’ve won each of their last six games at Memorial Stadium dating back to last season.
On the other side, Washington is still looking for its first road win of the year. (Washington is 2-5 in its last seven road games.) The Huskies won their first four games (all at home) and then dropped back-to-back on the road against UCLA and Arizona State. UW returned home last weekend to run past Arizona, 49-39.
We’ll see if the Bears have the horses to hang with the Husky offense, because stopping UW feels like it’ll be quite the challenge for Cal. Washington has scored a touchdown on its opening drive in all seven games, and it has already topped last season’s point total after just seven weeks.
At 42 points a game, Washington has the eighth-best scoring offense in college football. It’s a group that’s led by the nation’s passing leader in quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who has thrown for 2,560 yards in seven games and has at least 300 passing yards in every game this year.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
