The 13th-ranked Utah Utes (7-2, 5-1 Pac-12) host the Stanford Cardinal (3-6, 1-6 Pac-12) Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium for Senior Night.

After scoring 30 or more in six straight, the Utes ground out a 21-17 win over Washington State without their starting quarterback on Oct. 27. But Cameron Rising returned to the lineup last week and Utah’s offense once again looked potent. It put up 45 points on Arizona, ran for more than 300 yards, and cruised to a fifth conference win to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Pac-12 title game.

Now, Utah gets to face one of the worst defenses in the Pac-12. Stanford has lost back-to-back games, outscored by a combined 90-27 in the defeats.

On the season, the Stanford defense is giving up more than 31 points a game. That mark is only better than Arizona and Colorado.

Stanford has the misfortune of facing all five of the Pac-12’s ranked teams, with Utah serving as Game 5. Against the other four (USC, Washington, Oregon, UCLA), Stanford has given up 41 points a game and hasn’t been in a competitive affair past halftime.

Can the Cardinal find a way to keep Utah’s attack in check? Or will the Utes do to Stanford what so many others have this year?

Here’s everything you need to know for the game.

Expert predictions

ESPN’s FPI gives the Utes a 94.1% chance of beating the Cardinal.

Bill Connelly’s SP+ is calling for a 43-17 Utah win.

The Stanford Daily’s Pablo Noyola picked Utah to win 52-7:

Last year, Utah ran for 441 yards and six touchdowns against Stanford, and there really isn’t any reason to bet against a similar performance this year. Stanford lacks the personnel up front to match the Utes’ offensive line and has to rely on an inconsistent and injured linebacking corps to fill the resulting gaping holes. Meanwhile, Utah quarterback Cameron Rising arguably represents the cream of the crop at his position in the conference — the Ventura, California product is an efficient passer and capable runner. On the other side of the ball, Stanford’s struggling offense faces its sternest test against a mean Utah defense that will put a lot of pressure on the Cardinal’s passing attack.

The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner picked Utah to cover the spread:

The Cardinal hasn’t scored more than 16 points since early October and hasn’t had a week off since the middle of September. Its only hope is for the Utes to get caught up in the emotions of Senior Day or peeking ahead to Oregon next week. But those distractions won’t stick. Close for 30 minutes, not close after 45.
