Utah released its depth chart just under a week before the season opener against Florida.

Utes fans will immediately notice that Cam Rising is listed as the starting QB. This is an encouraging sign after the star QB has been limited as he recovers from an ACL injury suffered in January.

Rising is vital to the team’s success. The QB collected 3,034 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 465 rushing yards en route to a Rose Bowl appearance last season.

Another interesting note is that a true freshman will be the starting left tackle. Spencer Fano is a 4-star prospect out of Spanish Fork, UT. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound tackle will immediately be thrown into the fire starting against the Florida Gators. Fano is the only freshman slated to start on offense for the Utes.

The Utes have plenty of experience returning on defense. Tao Johnson, nickel back, and Keanu Tanuvasa, defensive tackle, are the only players slated to start with no prior starting experience.

The Utes kickoff against the Florida Gators on Thursday, Aug. 31st.
