A scholarship was given to a Utah player after the season-opening win against Florida. The Utes won 24-11 in Salt Lake City.

Bryson Barnes stepped in for the injured Cam Rising on Thursday. Barnes earned a scholarship from Utah after the game. Barnes described the feeling as a relief for he and his family.

Barnes had 159 yards passing and 2 total touchdowns against the Gators. Barnes may not receive much more playing time after Rising returns from injury, but the Utah QB showed the team can win with the backup under center.

Rising is still recovering from a torn ACL. Rising played in 13 games for Utah last season with 3,034 yards passing and 32 total touchdowns.

Nate Johnson and Devaughn Vele also took snaps in the game. The Utes will be taking on Baylor in Week 2.
