Utah OC Andy Ludwig provided an update on his ailing quarterback Cam Rising on Friday.

Ludwig stated that Rising is still a “limited participant,” in practice as he rehabs from an ACL injury suffered in the Rose Bowl. Utah held a scrimmage on Thursday and Rising was not available.

It was reported earlier this month that Rising was limited and three signal-callers were battling for the backup job. Bryson Barnes, Nate Johnson, and Brandon Rose have been splitting reps in Rising’s place, with Barnes currently in the lead according to head coach Kyle Wittingham.

The Utes will not want to rush their star QB back. In 2022 Rising had an impressive season, finishing with 3,034 passing yards, 26 TDs, and 8 INTs. Rising’s performance led to the Utes finishing with a 10-4 record and earning a Rose Bowl appearance.

Utah opens the 2023 season against Florida on Aug. 31.
