Utah has officially named its team captains for the upcoming season.

Quarterback Cameron Rising is a captain for the third straight season. He’s joined by tight end Brant Kuithe (his second consecutive selection), safety Cole Bishop, and linebacker Karene Reid.

That quartet will also serve on the Leadership Council alongside running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, wide receiver Devaughn Vele, offensive lineman Keaton Bills, offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea, defensive end Connor O’Toole, defensive tackle Junior Tafuna,  linebacker Lander Barton, and safety Sione Vaki.

This will be Rising’s fourth season on the Leadership Council. Kuithe, Vele, Bishop, and Reid also served on last year’s Leadership Council.

Players are elected to both positions by a vote of their teammates.

The Utes open the 2023 football season on Aug. 31 at home against the Florida Gators.
