Utah makes top three for prolific 2023 tight end from California
Zack Marshall, a 3-star athlete from Carlsbad (California), has narrowed his recruitment down to three schools.
He announced his top three on Sunday. The Utes made the cut alongside Cal and Michigan. The Wolverines are viewed as the front-runner in his recruitment, but Utah was his first Power Five offer and it would appear that established relationship still has Utah in the hunt.
Blessed to be in this position! I will be announcing my commitment on August 13th at noon. @GregBiggins @adamgorney @bangulo @ChadSimmons_ #GoUtes #GoBlue #GoBears pic.twitter.com/z5xxmArVSK

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Marshall rates as a 3-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He ranks 682nd overall in the 2023 class. Marshall is also the 60th-ranked athlete and the 51st-ranked recruit from the state of California.
It’s hard to argue with Utah’s track record at tight end. For a player like Marshall—a wideout/tight end for Carlsbad—the pitch would be a strong one. Utah has heavily featured the tight end in its offense of late, something that would have to be attractive to a tight end with the kind of production Marshall boasts.
As a junior last fall, he hauled in 44 receptions for 1,012 yards and nine scores. That put the per-catch average at 23 yards, a remarkable number even at the high school level. Marshall also recorded 31 tackles, three interceptions, two pass breakups, and two fumbles recoveries on defense.
