Utah lost a piece of its 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Phenix City (Ala.) Central defensive lineman Isaia Faga announced on his social media he is flipping his commitment from the Utes to the nearby Alabama Crimson Tide. Faga had been committed to the Utes since December of 2022 but has since seen his recruitment heat up.

Faga took official visits to Alabama and Texas in mid-June. Since joining the Utes class, he garnered scholarship offers from Texas, Auburn, Alabama, Missouri, Washington, Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, Colorado, and BYU.

“I wish to thank the University of Utah’s football staff for its belief in me,” he wrote. “I want to personally thank Coach Whittingham, Coach Ellis, my Uncle Lui who is Coach Powell, and all of the university staff members who have unconditionally supported me and made me feel as though I am a valued member of the Ute Family.”

A change of heart, though, is keeping him closer to home.

Faga is a 3-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He’s ranked as the No. 78 defensive lineman and the No. 764 overall prospect in the class.

His departure leaves the Utes with just four known pledges at the moment.
