Utah linebacker Owen Chambliss is entering the transfer portal.

The freshman linebacker announced on Friday he intends to put his name in the portal when the new window opens on Dec. 4. Chambliss came to Utah in the 2023 recruiting cycle after a strong career at Corona (Calif.) Cenennial.

He played in just four games this season to save a redshirt. Chambliss made a tackle on special teams in the win over Colorado on Nov. 25.

He’ll enter the portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Chambliss was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school. He took an official visit to Boise State during the recruiting process. There was also interest from Arizona, Boston College, Kansas, Minnesota, Oregon State, and USC, among others.

He’s believed to be the ninth player thus far to announce their intention to enter the portal this cycle. Justin Medlock, a 2022 signee to the linebacker room, has also announced his intent to enter the portal.

With Levani Damuni deciding to return for another season, Lander Barton and Sione Fotu continuing to grow, and the potential for Karene Reid to be back, linebacker looks like it’ll once again be well-stocked for the Utes in 2024.
