Utah football has announced a new date for the Week 1 opener to the 2023 season schedule.

An announcement came down Tuesday that the Utes will open the season against Florida on Thursday, Aug. 31. That matchup was originally established for Saturday of Week 1.

Utah has also set a game as a Red Out for fans in Rice-Eccles Stadium. There is currently no TV designation or kickoff time for the matchup.

This year’s visit from Florida will be the follow-up to Utah’s road trip to Florida to begin the 2022 season. That game was a 29-26 loss for Utah in a dramatic loss to the Gators.

Fortunately, Utah went a perfect 6-0 at home last season and is undefeated at home the past two seasons. The Utes are also 13-1 under head coach Kyle Whittingham when starting the season on a weekday game.

We’ll see if Utah can get some revenge against the Gators and keep the positive home results rolling on Aug. 31.
