While the rest of the conference was set into panic on Thursday, Utah was operating business as usual.

Michael Mitchell, a 3-star running back from Middleburg (Fla.), announced his commitment to the Utes. He also had interest from Iowa State, Louisville, Washington State, Appalachian State, and Buffalo, among others.

The 6-foot, 195-pound runner rates as a 3-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He’s the 37th-ranked back in the class and the 571st-ranked prospect overall. Utah’s coaching staff is one of the best in the country at finding underrated or unheralded prospects and trusting their evaluation, and this might be no exception.

As a junior last fall, Mitchell carried the load for Middleburg, running it 154 times for 1,378 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 172 yards a game and 8.9 yards a carry. He has also worked as a kickoff return man—recording a 91-yard return as a sophomore—and spent a bit of time on the defensive side of the ball. As a sophomore, he recorded 17 tackles and two tackles for loss.

His pledge gives Utah its eighth known commitment for the 2023 cycle. You can view Mitchell’s highlight tape below, via Hudl:
