Ahead of a massive weekend for the program both on the field and on the recruiting trail, Utah got wonderful news on the latter front Thursday.

Meridian (Idaho) Rocky Mountain tight end CJ Jacobsen has announced his commitment to the Utes. The 3-star tight end chose Utah from a group of finalists that also included NC State, Louisville, Arizona, Arizona State, and BYU.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end ranks as the 47th-best at his position, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite. A 3-star prospect, he’s the 981st overall recruit in the class and gives Utah its 15th known pledge this cycle.

UteZone’s Steve Bartle had this to say on his game:

Jacobsen has a pretty good blend of athleticism and talent for the tight end position. He can be a matchup problem for defenders. He can line up inline, in the slot, or out wide as a receiver and that kind of versatility is coveted by today’s offenses. He has the burst, change of direction, and speed to threaten every level of the passing attack. He possesses good hands and natural feel in the throw game, while continuing to improve as a blocker.
