This year’s recipient of the Ty Jordan/Aaron Lowe Memorial Scholarship is third-year quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson.

The program shared the news on Friday, alongside a brief glimpse into the team’s meeting room when coach Kyle Whittingham announced the news.

“I appreciate y’all for letting me represent the guys this year,” Jackson told his teammates. “You all know how close we were and how much they meant to me. … Love y’all. Let’s keep this ball rolling.”

Jackson enrolled at Utah in January 2021 after transferring in from Texas. The first person he met on his new team was Aaron Lowe, according to The Salt Lake Tribune’s Josh Newman. He and Lowe were instant friends. After the Utes won the 2021 Pac-12 Championship, Jackson dedicated the game to their memory.

He’s the second player to receive the award. Utah created the scholarship fund last season to honor the memory of Jordan and Lowe.

Jackson and the Utes begin their new season next Saturday in Gainesville against the Florida Gators.
