Washington put up just over 700 yards of offense late Saturday night to claim a 51-33 Apple Cup victory over Washington State in Pullman.

The result, because of Oregon’s loss to Oregon State earlier in the day, sends Utah through to the Pac-12 Championship Game on account of the league’s tiebreakers. The Utes will get a chance to defend their 2021 Pac-12 title.

The Utes (9-3, 7-2 Pac-12) will face the USC Trojans (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Friday, Dec. 2. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT on FOX.

The Utes dominated Colorado in Boulder on Saturday, winning 63-21 over the hapless Buffs. The result gave Utah its fourth consecutive full season with nine wins or more.

It also gives the program its fourth Pac-12 title game appearance in five seasons.

With Utah’s trip back to the Pac-12 Championship Game, USC will get a shot to avenge its only loss on the season and impress the College Football Playoff selection committee one last time. The Utes beat the Trojans in Salt Lake City on Oct. 15 on a last-minute two-point conversion from quarterback Cameron Rising.

USC has been on an absolute tear ever since. The Trojans beat Notre Dame 38-27 at home on Saturday in a game that could serve as quarterback Caleb Williams’ Heisman moment.

With USC still in the hunt for the CFP, the Pac-12’s Rose Bowl spot this year seemingly becomes Utah’s to lose. A win by the Trojans in the Pac-12 title game would send them through to the CFP, leaving the Rose Bowl to select from what would be a 9-4 Utah team at that point, a 10-2 Washington team, a 9-3 Oregon State team, or a 9-3 Oregon team.
