Pair of Utah defenders earn Pac-12 Performance Awards for Week Four
Two Utah defensive players garnered Pac-12 Performance Awards after Week Four’s games, as the league office released its winners on Monday.
Utes linebacker Karene Reid was named the conference’s defensive player of the week following their 14-7 win over UCLA. He started the game with a 21-yard pick-6 of Bruins quarterback Dante Moore on the opening play to stake the Utes to an early lead. He also was credited with 9 tackles, a season-high.
Jonah Elliss had a massive afternoon against the Bruins en route to defensive lineman of the week honors, getting to Moore 3.5 times. All told, he totaled a career-best 10 tackles, including 5.0 tackles for a loss.
The Utes also had several players nominated for awards: punter Jack Bouwmeester and defensive end Logan Fano. Bouwmeester averaged 44.0 yards on his 8 punts while Fano made 6 tackles and was credited with 0.5 sacks.
Utah is 4-0 ahead of a Friday night matchup at Oregon State. Kickoff from Corvallis is set for 6 p.m. PT on FS1.
