As the athletic director at a major football program, Mark Harlan’s inbox is likely no stranger to angry mail.

Some are better than others.

Harlan, the Utes’ fifth-year athletic director, shared a recent printed letter he received from a college football fan who “passionately” despises Ohio State accusing Utah of conspiring to get Ohio State into the College Football Playoff.

The letter is incredible. Here’s how it reads:

Dear Mr. Harlan:

I was angered that the Utah Utes defeated the University of Southern California Trojans in the Pac-12 college football title game. I was counting on the Trojans to stay #4 and keep the Ohio State Buckeyes, currently at #5 with one loss, out of the top four and the college football playoff system. I passionately despite the Buckeyes and their bandwagon fans. I cannot help but (sic.) your team conspired to try to get the hated Buckeyes into the playoffs. The Utes could have just gone through the motions to keep any chance of the Buckeyes being in the playoffs at zero.

The kicker has to be the sign-off: “feeling betrayed.”

Harlan shared a photo of the letter on Twitter with a simple response: “Sorry dude.”

Utah went into the Pac-12 title game with no chance of making the College Football Playoff. It could, however, wreck the Pac-12’s Playoff chances by handing USC a second loss. The Trojans entered the game ranked fourth in the CFP ranking and most assumed a win would send them to the CFP.

A 47-24 loss to Utah, however, opened the door for Ohio State to get into the field even after a late-season blowout loss to Michigan left the Buckeyes idle during conference championship weekend.
