Mike Saunders Jr. announced that he would be entering the transfer portal on Monday and made a decision on his future landing spot Tuesday, choosing to take his talents to McNeese State.

Saunders, who originally transferred from Cincinnati to Utah this past season, played 18 games for the Utes this year. He averaged just 4.1 points per game, but showed what he is capable of in late February against UCLA.

Saunders reached way into his bag to drop a career-high 25 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists on 7-11 shooting in a close loss to the Bruins.

Saunders was not a high-volume player at Utah, but he played well at Cincinnati, especially the year before transferring. He was a strong floor general and shot above 36% from deep, presenting a real challenge for AAC competition.

Saunders will likely be competing with 2022 Southland Freshman of the Year Johnathan Massie for minutes at the point position. Massie is now entering Year 3 with the Cowboys, who struggled this past season while dealing with various injury issues.

He will play for former LSU head coach Will Wade.
