Logan Fano suffered a torn ACL during last Friday’s 21-7 loss to Oregon State.

The Utah defensive end took to social media on Monday to confirm the worst after he left the game in the first half. Fano seems to be in good enough spirits, though, all things considered.

“How many people can say they got a sack and tore their ACL at the same time,” he wrote in a post on social media. “I know I’m finally where I’m supposed to be here in Salt Lake and I’m excited to attack this rehab process again.”

The 6-foor-4 redshirt freshman from Spanish Fork entered Friday night’s game with 12 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. He had two tackles against the Beavers, including the sack during which he injured himself.

Fano, a transfer from BYU this offseason, also had ACL surgery back in March 2022. He came to Utah expected to contribute right away and had been a valuable piece of the defensive line throughout the first five games of the season.

Jonah Elliss has been a force for Utah at the defensive end spot this season, with a nation-leading 7.5 sacks. But Utah is starting to get thin at the position. Van Fillinger has missed both of Utah’s first two games in conference play. Connor O’Toole has yet to play this season.

Against the Beavs, Chase Kennedy saw his first extensive action of the season and could be in line for an expanded role going forward.

Utah (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) is on its bye week this week, hoping to get healthy for the stretch run.
