Kyle Whittingham joked Monday afternoon that he will wait up to 10 minutes until Utah’s season opener against Florida to decide whether or not Cam Rising will start.

The star Utah QB suffered a knee injury late last season in the Rose Bowl against Penn State and has been slowly progressing back. Even worse for Utah, backup Brandon Rose suffered an injury a week ago that will take months, not weeks to remedy.

Whittingham has since stated that Bryson Barnes will get the start should Rising not be able to go, but a little over a week out the Utes are still uncertain.

The Utes fell to the Gators last season in strong showing from now-Colts QB Anthony Richardson. Utah should have one of the better squads in the Pac-12 once again this season but has to take care of business against the Gators, potentially down their starting QB.
