Kyle Whittingham announces another season-ending injury for Utah defense
Kyle Whittingham said after Utah’s 42-18 loss to Arizona that the injury that kept Jonah Elliss off the field on Saturday will end his season.
Karene Reid and Cole Bishop also missed Saturday’s game. Whittingham said they are significantly banged up. Reid will not play against Colorado in the regular-season finale. Bishop is questionable.
Elliss becomes the third season-ending injury to a major defensive player. Utah has already lost linebacker Lander Barton and defensive end Logan Fano. Elliss was certainly missed against the Wildcats.
Utah had one sack all game. Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita was rarely pressured.
The Utes entered the game with 30 sacks in 10 games (17th nationally). Elliss was responsible for 12 of those. He’s a finalist for the Lombardi Award as the nation’s best down lineman.
Reid and Bishop are just important. They have a combined 107 tackles, seven tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, and three interceptions.
Utah will close out the year at home against Colorado next Saturday.
