Utah can still make it to the Pac-12 Championship Game, but it has to take care of business against the Colorado Buffaloes Saturday afternoon in Boulder or none of the other results matter.

Bill Connelly’s SP+ doesn’t see that being a problem.

The predictive model is calling for a 49-13 Utah win, giving coach Kyle Whittingham’s crew a 98% chance of walking away with a victory.

Utah (8-3, 6-2 Pac-12) is still viewed favorably by SP+. It’s the 12th-ranked team in college football in Connelly’s model, trailing only Oregon in the Pac-12. The Utes have a top-30 offense and defense, according to SP+.

And the Buffs (1-10, 1-7 Pac-12) might be getting an angry squad on both sides of the football. Utah played uncharacteristically last week in a 20-17 loss to Oregon.

“You know the old adage — we can’t let Oregon beat us twice. Can’t have a hangover, can’t feel sorry for yourself. You’ve got to pick yourself back up and get ready for the next one,” Whittingham said this week. “We’ve got to finish the season the right way and just be concerned with ourselves. We’ll see what else transpires. It’s been a year of a lot of positives and obviously some negatives, but we’ve got a chance to win our ninth ballgame and that’s where our entire focus is.”

Colorado figures to provide little resistance in that quest. The Buffs are giving up 43 points a game to opposing offenses and have been an equal-opportunity defense when it comes to yardage. They give up 233 on the ground and 263 through the air. Utah will be without its No. 1 tailback for the game, but the Utes should be able to get themselves back on track after last week.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network.
