ESPN's College GameDay crew gives their predictions for Utah's Rose Bowl matchup
ESPN’s College GameDay offered a special Monday presentation live from the Rose Bowl ahead of the afternoon game between the Pac-12 and Big Ten champions. That meant we got one final round of picks from the pregame crew.
The eighth-ranked Utes (10-3) are taking on a 10-2 Penn State squad whose only losses on the year were to teams that advanced to the College Football Playoff. Penn State is a popular pick, and the GameDay crew was almost unanimous in siding with the Nittany Lions.
Kirk Herbstreit did not pick the game as he’ll be on the call during it for ESPN. Here’s how everyone else picked:
- Desmond Howard: Penn State
- David Pollack: Penn State
- Pat McAfee: Penn State
- Lee Corso: Utah
This is a Utah squad that has, in many ways, been there, done that. The Utes have won back-to-back Pac-12 titles and are appearing in the Rose Bowl for a second consecutive season.
This time last year, the Utes were left heartbroken after one of the most entertaining games we’ve seen in the storied history of the game. Ohio State emerged with a 48-45 win that featured a combined 42 points scored in the second quarter and an injury to Cameron Rising that forced Bryson Barnes into action.
Rising and the Utes are hoping for a little redemption this time around.
Kickoff in Pasadena is set for 2 p.m. PT on ESPN.
