Utah is the best team in the Pac-12, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index.

And after a Week 11 that saw Oregon lose its first conference game at home to Washington and UCLA fall at the Rose Bowl to Arizona, Utah has emerged as the most likely team to win the Pac-12 title in FPI’s view. A week ago, Oregon was the favorite with a 33.1% chance of winning the conference championship. This week, Utah is viewed as the best bet with a 36.7% chance.

The Utes lost right out of the gates this season, a 29-26 defeat to Florida on the road. Then, after a 42-32 defeat at the hands of UCLA at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 8, there were plenty of questions about Utah’s ability to reach another Pac-12 title game, let alone win one.

Oregon was rolling, UCLA was playing inspired ball, and USC was running over opponents with its high-powered offense. The Utes appeared to be on the outside looking in.

Fast forward five weeks and Utah is sitting in a tie for second in the league standings with two games to go. The Utes are responsible for USC’s only loss on the season. UCLA suffering a second conference loss on Saturday means Utah now controls its own destiny in terms of getting to Las Vegas.

The team the Utes are tied with? Oregon. The team the Utes face in Week 12? Oregon.

Utah beat the Ducks twice in three games last year by a combined score of 76-17. It’ll travel to Autzen Stadium on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. PT kick (ESPN) hoping to come away with a third straight victory.

If USC beats UCLA on Saturday (5 p.m. PT, FOX), the Trojans secure one of two spots in the championship game. Oregon certainly isn’t out of the running either. The winner of Saturday’s contest in Eugene would move within a game of locking up the other spot, though there’s the potential for even more chaos down the closing stretch.
