AP Top 25: After offensive explosion, Utah moves down in the latest media poll
Utah had one of the best offensive performances in its program history and… moved down in the latest AP Top 25?
The Utes dropped from No. 13 to No. 14 in the media poll for the new week, jumped by BYU and Miami after a week that saw Utah blow the doors of FCS Southern Utah. In a 73-7 win over the Thunderbirds, the Utes scored the most points they’ve put up in a single game since 1973. The win also featured 599 yards of total offense, the best output by Utah since 2013.
But BYU moved up to No. 12 after a 26-20 double-overtime win over Baylor, and Miami moved up two spots to No. 13 after a 30-7 win over Southern Miss.

Perhaps the Utes’ Week 1 loss to Florida is still doing damage.
The Gators dropped six spots to No. 18 in the new poll after losing to Kentucky. A win over Utah in Week 1 rocketed the Gators up into the poll after entering the season unranked. It dropped Utah from a preseason No. 7 spot down to No. 13. But, if the Florida loss is justification to knock Utah one spot in the poll, it’s curious to see the Kentucky Wildcats jump 11 spots from No. 20 all the way to No. 9 for beating those same Gators.
Utah likely won’t care about all the posturing. Just win. That’ll likely be the message from coach Kyle Whittingham to his team. The Utes take the field again Saturday against San Diego State, looking to avenge a 2021 loss. That game went to triple-overtime and featured the turnover of the offense from quarterback Charlie Brewer to Cameron Rising.
The two sides face off at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
