If USC is able to win out, Pac-12 Network analyst Yogi Roth says it deserves a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Trojans sit at 9-1 on the year and are ranked No. 7 in the latest CFP Top 25. With games against UCLA, Notre Dame, and then a sure-to-be-ranked opponent in the Pac-12 Championship Game, USC could pick up three straight top-25 wins to close out the year and head into Selection Sunday with quite the résumé.

If Oregon State is able to hold in the back half of the Top 25 (currently 23rd), USC could go into the final rankings with four wins over teams inside the CFP selection committee’s ranking. It would have a conference championship.

It wouldn’t be able to match the strength of schedule of a team like Tennessee, but the Trojans do have one of the 10 best “game control” scores of any team in the country, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. And they would certainly be a team that passes the eye test, playing their best ball heading into the Playoff.

If it can win out, USC should be in the field of four. Here’s what Roth had to say on the matter:

“Now, they lost Travis Dye for the rest of the season, but you see the depth. Austin Jones absolutely thrived. How about Raleek Brown? A chance to be an absolute superstar. Regardless of who he’s playing, he’s always the most explosive and fastest player on the field. So, I think USC, while they take a huge hit (losing) a big-time playmaker, if anything they have a ton of playmakers. They come at you in waves. You saw that against Colorado.

“And now the stage is set across town against UCLA, then of course against a ranked Notre Dame. If the USC Trojans can win out, get to the Pac-12 title, beat another ranked team, their resume to go to the College Football Playoff is pretty easy to look at and say, ‘Yep, I get it.’ Nine conference games, an incredibly strong non-conference schedule when you look at even how Rice and Fresno State have done throughout this season. If they can finish this off, get a little healthier with Eric Gentry, the Trojans are putting themselves in Year 1 in a position that not many people thought they’d be in — which is controlling their ability to possibly go to the College Football Playoff. The nation should be paying attention.”

The Trojans (9-1, 7-1 Pac-12) head to the Rose Bowl this weekend to face the UCLA Bruins (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12) at 5 p.m. PT on FOX.
