At long last, Makai Lemon has his fifth star.

The long-time USC commit and Los Alamitos (Calif.) athlete officially earned 5-star status in the 247Sports Top247 rankings update earlier this week. He’s a consensus 5-star now after also earning the distinction in the industry-generated 247 Composite earlier this month. Lemon ranks as the No. 21 overall prospect and was switched from an athlete to a wide receiver — the No. 4 prospect at his position in the class.

The Trojans officially have three 5-star prospects now in the 2023 class, tying Alabama and Texas for the most of any team in the country.

Six wide receivers in total are inside the Top247’s top 32 prospects — the crop of 5-stars — and two of them are committed to play for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans. Lemon is joined by Zachariah Branch (No. 1 WR).

USC’s receiver haul also includes 4-star Mesa (Ariz.) Red Mountain wideout Ja’Kobi Lane, who rose nine spots in the latest Top 247 update.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Lemon played both wideout and corner for the Griffins but is expected to play on the offensive side of the football for Riley. He led Los Alamitos as a senior with 69 receptions for 1,044 receptions and 12 scores. As a junior, he posted 1,062 receiving yards and 15 more touchdowns. Lemon was also productive on the defensive side of the ball, recording 13 interceptions during his high school career.

Several other Trojans saw big surges in their ranking as well.

Edge rusher Braylan Shelby jumped more than 80 spots, up to No. 61. Cornerback Maliki Crawford climbed more than 60 spots up to No. 161. Offensive tackle Elijah Paige rose 75 spots up to No. 169.

With the Early Signing Period set to open in a week, the Trojans’ 2023 class ranks 14th nationally.
