USC vs. Arizona State: TV info, betting odds, and score predictions
USC travels to Tempe, Arizona, on Saturday to meet what will likely be a desperate Arizona State team.
The Sun Devils are 1-2 and ravaged by injuries. They’re coming off an embarrassing 29-0 loss to Fresno State. We know head coach Kenny Dillingham isn’t rolling over on the season, and can expect he won’t let his team do so either.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne is expected to lead the offense out in his first start. Dillingham is expected to have more of a hand in the play-calling. Will that lead to more opportunities for players like Elijhah Badger (125 yards, nine catches), Xavier Guillory (140 yards, 12 catches), and Cameron Skattebo (148 yards, 36 runs)? ASU’s playmakers have been quiet so far.
But the Sun Devils are up against it with the No. 5 team in the country coming to town.
USC has fielded the second-most efficient offense in college football to this point in the season. Led by Caleb Williams, the Trojans are averaging 9.3 yards per play. Williams has rarely been needed in the second half, and yet he still has 12 touchdown passes in three games. And he has spread the ball around; six different receivers have at least 100 yards this year.
Williams hasn’t yet thrown an interception. Arizona State hasn’t yet forced a turnover. Unless that changes, the Trojans could roll.

Score predictions
ESPN’s FPI gives USC a 98.1% chance of coming away with the win.
Bill Connelly’s SP+ projects a 45-16 USC win.
Saturday Out West’s Jon Gold predicts a 51-10 USC win:
USC has already played Stanford in an early Week 2 Pac-12 preview and now gets Arizona State, the equivalent of starting the league season with 80-yard touchdown passes on the first 2 drives. The Trojans have been almost flawless on offense behind Caleb Williams, who is well on his way to retaining his Heisman Trophy. Alex Grinch has tightened up the USC defense enough to instill real hope in the hearts of Trojans fans, and with Arizona State’s passing game in complete disarray, it should be another early day for Williams.
Saturday Out West’s Derek Peterson picked the Trojans to cover:
With Arizona State so shorthanded, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the visiting Trojans struggle to pull away. The issues on the offensive line are troublesome in general, but in this particular matchup, I think USC can make Drew Pyne’s day miserable. They’re not forcing a ton of turnovers, but they’ve compensated by leading the conference in TFLs. To keep this competitive, ASU would need to be able to stay on schedule offensively, shorten the game, and generate a couple turnovers. I don’t think it can do any of those things.
