The Trojans are in position to make the College Football Playoff as long as they keep winning.

In the latest set of rankings released by the CFP selection committee on Tuesday, USC moved up one spot to No. 6. The top four remained unchanged — Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and TCU — with each unbeaten squad surviving Week 12 challenges. But the Buckeyes and Wolverines square off this weekend, with the loser eliminated from contention for the Big Ten championship.

The Trojans also remain behind two-loss LSU, but the Tigers will have to play Georgia in the SEC title game.

Regardless, the Trojans appear to be two wins away from the CFP. Notre Dame stands on the schedule this weekend. Then it’s off to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Championship Game. A one-loss Power Five conference champion has yet to be excluded from the College Football Playoff.

USC clinched its spot in the Pac-12 title game over this past weekend with a 48-45 win over UCLA.

In the win, Caleb Williams officially launched his Heisman campaign. He went 32-of-43 for a career-high 470 yards and two passing touchdowns while adding 33 rushing yards and a third score on eight carries. The 503 total yards set a USC single-game record and was the most by any player in the 92-game history of the USC-UCLA series.

On the year, Williams has produced 3,796 yards of total offense to go with 40 total touchdowns. No FBS player has more scores.

“Up to this point, I don’t think there’s been a better, more valuable player in college football than him,” coach Lincoln Riley said in the lead-up to USC’s game against Colorado. And nothing has changed in the two wins since.

USC’s CFP hopes hinge on Williams’ Heisman candidacy at this point. It’ll need him to continue performing at an elite level over the next two weeks. Up first: the 13th-ranked Fighting Irish at 4:30 p.m. PT on ABC.
