USC reportedly losing edge defender to transfer portal
USC rush end Romello Height is entering the transfer portal after two seasons with the program, according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
The 6-foot-3 defender from Dublin, Georgia, initially began his career at Auburn. In the 2022 offseason, he joined USC as part of Lincoln Riley’s initial recruiting class. If he seeks it, Height could try and secure a medical waiver after missing all but the first two games of the 2022 season, leaving him with up to three years of eligibility.
Height opened the 2022 season as a starter on the edge for the Trojans, and the coaching staff spent the offseason speaking highly of his game. But he suffered an injury two games into the season that knocked him out for the rest of the year.
In 2023, Height played in more of a rotation at outside linebacker and came off the bench for each of his 12 appearances. He played sparingly in the first few weeks of the season and then got his most extensive action to date against Arizona State and Colorado.
His performance in Tempe was a breakthrough game. He had five tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. A week later against Colorado, he recorded another sack.
Height finished the season with 21 tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks.
