USC reportedly losing another 5-star signee to the transfer portal
USC cornerback Domani Jackson is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Jackson was a 5-star signee out of the 2022 class and the gem of Lincoln Riley’s first high school recruiting class. Though that group was intentionally small to make room for Riley’s transfer portal overhaul, three of the top four prospects have now either left or decided to leave. Jackson joins Raleek Brown (Arizona State) and CJ Williams (Wisconsin) as players to depart within two years.
The Mater Dei defensive back is also the second former 5-star recruit in as many days to opt for the transfer portal. Multiple reports on Sunday night revealed 2023 quarterback signee Malachi Nelson plans to hit the portal after one year, one appearance, and one pass completion with the program.
Jackson played in seven games as a true freshman. This season, he made 33 tackles and three pass breakups in 11 appearances. He started in all 11 games in which he appeared.
According to Pro Football Focus, Jackson gave up 20 receptions on 31 targets for 411 yards (20.6 yards a catch) and two touchdowns this season. He was charged with seven missed tackles and flagged five times.
In what was his first season as a full-time starter, there were some obvious growing pains. But there were also flashes of the player Jackson could be.
He was the fifth-ranked recruit in the country in the Class of 2022 and the No. 2 cornerback. With USC making a change at defensive backs coach — moving from Donte Williams to Doug Belk — attrition in the secondary was certainly possible. A reunion with Williams at Georgia could be in the cards for Jackson, who figures to have no shortage of suitors.
With Christian Roland-Wallace out of eligibility and Jackson moving on, USC will look quite different at corner next fall.
