USC is looking to rebuild its defense this offseason, and on the same day one of its former inside ‘backers announced their move to a Pac-12 foe, the Trojans picked up a replacement to join the middle of the defense.

Former Oklahoma State linebacker and All-Big 12 performer Mason Cobb will transfer to USC. Cobb announced the news Monday evening on social media.

In three seasons with the Cowboys, Cobb appeared 30 times. He recorded a team-high 96 tackles for the Cowboys in 2022, including 13 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. It was a true breakout campaign as Cobb stepped in to fill the shoes of the departed Malcolm Rodriguez, OSU’s leading tackler in 2021 and an NFL Draft pick after the season. Prior to 2022, Cobb had just 12 career tackles but proved right away he could be a difference-maker in the middle of the Cowboys’ defense.

He was ranked as the No. 2 available transfer linebacker in the country by 247Sports. USC will add him to a room that’ll also bolster the versatile Eric Gentry and the veteran Shane Lee. USC is also set to add 4-star linebacker Tackett Curtis from the 2023 class.

The Trojans have added six transfer commitments so far, only one of which has come on the offensive side of the football. Cobb will join punter Eddie Czaplicki (Arizona State), linebacker Jamil Muhammad (Georgia State), defensive lineman Kyon Barrs (Arizona), cornerback Christian Roland-Wallace (Arizona), and wideout Dorian Singer (Arizona) as experienced newcomers.
