USC, Oregon make top 10 for 5-star 2024 cornerback
Schools are still working on putting together their 2023 classes, but there’s nothing wrong with working ahead in recruiting.
And both USC and Oregon are in on one of the best 2024 recruits in the country. Desmond Ricks, a 5-star corner from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, announced his top 10 schools on Saturday; the Trojans and Ducks made the list alongside Miami, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Jackson State, Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M.

Ricks is the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the industry-generated 247 Composite. At 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, Ricks already possesses great size and length for the corner spot.
As a sophomore last fall, he earned a spot on the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American team. In a loaded IMG secondary, he got starter snaps despite his youth. Here’s what 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins had to say in Ricks’ scouting report:
Rather advanced from a technical standpoint as he understands how to mirror with his hips and gain depth while in reverse. Longer arms help him takeaway throwing lanes while quick-twitch muscle fibers allow him to jump routes and make plays at all different levels. Grew up running track and tested off the charts spring before his junior season clocking the fastest 40-yard dash and posting the second-highest vertical jump at IMG Academy’s annual Pro Day. Must keep progressing and adding some core strength over the years as that will make him more effective in run support, but looks to have one of the highest ceilings out of anyone in the class of 2024 given his ball skills, foot speed and frame. Should be viewed as a future impact player on Saturdays and someone that could eventually suit up on Sundays. Likely to get on the field sooner rather than later as he appears to be well ahead of the curve.
Oregon doesn’t yet have a 2024 commit. The Trojans have a trio of verbal pledges already in the class—4-star athlete Aaron Butler, 4-star linebacker Dylan Williams, and 4-star wideout Jason Robinson.
