USC is among the 12 teams still in the hunt for one of the very best athletes in the 2024 class.

Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview athlete Mike Matthews announced his top 12 on Tuesday, placing USC alongside Colorado, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Clemson, Ohio State, and Michigan. The 5-star prospect holds 30 scholarship offers from Power Five (or soon-to-be) programs.

Matthews lists himself at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. He’s a multi-sport athlete for Parkview, competing in track and field and playing for the basketball team. And the numbers jump off the page.

He caught 48 passes for 764 yards and seven touchdowns (while picking off a pair of passes on defense) as a sophomore in 2021. That breakout was followed up by an explosion as a junior in the fall of 2022. He played wideout and safety for Parkview, catching 48 balls for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns while picking off another two passes on defense.

Matthews has reported a scholarship offer to play basketball at Mississippi State, and he has an 11.57 100m time as a freshman and a 17-foot-2.5 long jump.

USC defensive coordinator and safeties coach Alex Grinch is Matthews’ primary recruiter from the Trojans.

He’s ranked as the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2024 class by the industry-generated 247 Composite. Though he’s a two-way player who could play either side of the ball in college, he’s listed as a wideout by the Composite, and ranked No. 2 at his position.
