The Trojans’ leading tackler this season is moving on.

Kana’i Mauga will forego his final year of eligibility and enter the 2022 NFL Draft. He announced the news on Twitter Wednesday.

Mauga led all Trojans this season with 91 tackles from his spot in the middle of the USC defense. He also added 5.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, a sack, a fumble forced, and an interception.

The Waianae, Hawaii, native played right away when he got to campus ahead of the 2018 season. He played in all 12 games that year as an outside ‘backer, totaling 14 stops. In 2019, he moved inside and appeared in 13 games while earning eight starts. He finished the year with 61 tackles and seven TFLs. In 2020, Mauga again played a key role, totaling 41 tackles in 6 appearances (4 starts).

For his career, the 6-foot-2 linebacker had 207 tackles, 16.5 TFLs, eight pass breakups, five sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
